If you have a tooth you want to replace, single tooth implants are a great way to complete your smile. When you're missing a tooth, you leave your mouth vulnerable to bacteria that can lead to gum disease. An implant is an excellent and safe way to preserve the bone underneath your tooth, and it allows you to practice better dental care. If you're trying to decide between an implant or an alternative treatment, learn more about the benefits of an implant.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

A dentist starts by making an opening in the bone above your teeth. Your jaw is designed to support the tooth whether one is attached or not, but it takes a little help from the dentist. The dentist will place a titanium rod into your jawbone known as the actual implant. After which, they'll use a screw to attach an abutment. The abutment is usually made of gold, porcelain, or titanium, and is designed to root the crown in place as the final step.

What Does It Look Like?

The abutment screws into the implant and serves to hold the crown. The crown, like other dental crowns, is shaped like the tooth it is replacing. The crown is designed to look exactly like a regular tooth so it will blend in with your remaining natural teeth. This procedure can be used regardless of whether you need one implant or several to fill any missing gaps inside your mouth. It can be the best way to get the attractive smile you desire.

How Long Does It Take?

The total amount of time depends on how your mouth reacts to the procedure, and the strength of your bone. Weaker bbone may need additional treatment. Usually, it takes at least 5 to 6 months or so for dental implants, but it can take up to a year or more. Expect the process to take less time if you are getting an implant in the lower jaw.

What are the Long-Term Benefits?

Aside from the esthetic advantages, you'll also have an easier time taking care of your mouth. Bridges are the other common form of treatment over dental implants, but they have a tendency to recede the gum and make it more difficult to clean the mouth. Single tooth implants, on the other hand, build up your bone and protect your mouth from long-term harm.

Love, love, love the whole staff here! I am being treated for adult orthodontic surgical braces to correct my underbite. Throughout the entire process from the initial consultation, finance/payment, greeting/exit of each appointment, and of course the talented and genuine staff that treat your teeth each time,
We were in an emergent situation after a playground accident/trauma and within 10 mins of calling and upon arrival, we were greeted, evaluated, and treated immediately on our first visit.
They are AWESOME....I make that drive from Alexandria to Fairfax to take my kid here. My kid loves that they make her feel comfortable and they are just happy and jolly.
